This January Theatre Severn welcomes renowned actor Timothy West to pay tribute to local poet Wilfred Owen. Produced in association with the Imperial War Museum The Pity of War is a moving show reflecting on the trials and tribulations of the First World War.
A panel of experts will be fighting for the chance to prove their favourite poet should be crowned the ‘Blackwell’s Audience Poet of Poets’. Professor Lucy Newlyn will defend Wordsworth, Professor Katherine Duncan-Jones will be discussing Shakespeare and Wilfred Owen will be championed by Professor Jon Stallworthy. The evening will be chaired by Dr Jane Potter.
"Vilomah" explores the grief of Wilfred Owen's mother Susan. Containing Owen’s actual words re-imagined as contemporary songs, including "Futility", "Exposure" and "Dulce et Decorum Est", the musical is the follow-up to Dean Johnson's Bullets And Daffodils.
Dean Johnson, founder of the Wilfred Owen story in Birkenhead, presents a lunchtime lecture on the life and work of Wilfred Owen and the importance the poet still has when we discuss the Great War.
Oswestry LitFest No. 5 will include a lecture on Wilfred Owen presented by Martin Bell OBE.
